The Imaging Technician plays a key role in preserving treasures for future generations, creating high-quality, lasting digital records that are both accessible and compliant with national standards. Beyond technical skills, you'll help ensure that our images are used responsibly, respecting the rights and permissions tied to each artifact. 

With the museum regularly creating new exhibitions and maintaining an online catalogue of over 200K, there is opportunity for capturing the beauty, mystery and mana of collection objects for promotion, online and physical display.

Key Functions and Responsibilities of this role include:

  • Process and fulfill image orders.

  • Photograph 2D and 3D objects.

  • Draft and send image use agreements, including credits, permissions, and labels.

  • Coordinate with accounts administrator for custom invoices as needed.

  • Manage internal image requests for marketing, education, exhibitions, and collections.

  • Collaborate with Collections Leader and curators on photography requests.

  • Collaborate with Kaitiaki Taonga Māori for any taonga Māori photography requests

  • Provide monthly and annual reports of image service activity to Collections Leader.

  • Coordinate and supervise external contractors for special photography projects.

  • Maintain image files, metadata, and usage rights in Museum servers and Vernon CMS.

  • Maintain a safe and functional photography studio, following collection care and tikanga guidelines.
