ONLINE DATABASE

The Nelson Provincial Museum's collection is an extensive record of the region's social history and New Zealand's development. It forms a unique and detailed continuous documentation of the Nelson Tasman region.

Over 160,000 items are accessible through our Collections Online. The online collection includes photography from the 1860s to the present, maps and architectural plans, books and publications, archives and general social history items.

ONLINE DATABASE

This website is a full-text archive of The Nelson Photo News, a monthly magazine published between 1960 and 1974.

The website allows you to:

- browse the entire archive, as well as read complete editions,

- search for and read individual articles,

- view and print transcripts of articles or images of original magazine pages,

- search articles by person, place, title and keyword.

ONLINE COLLECTION

We are thrilled to announce the completion of the Geoffrey C Wood Proof Book Project, thanks to the generous funding of The Nelson Civic Trust.

Over 40,000 proof book records are now available to browse online.

Family History and Military Research

Military Research

A spreadsheet of WW1 Nelson Tasman Service Personnel is now available as a downloadable PDF. This spreadsheet was formerly known as the WW1 Service Database and was previously available on the Museum’s WW1 webpage. This website (without the Database) has been archived with the National Library - click here to access.

Military researchers should also access Auckland Museum’s Online Cenotaph and the National Library. Tasman District Library also has a Roll of Honour available online at World War One | Tasman Heritage.

Family History Research

Access to original Early Passenger Lists and Immigration Records can be found online at Archives New Zealand and Family Search.

You can also search The Prow online - which is local repository of historical and cultural stories from Nelson, Tasman and Marlborough"

Order images

As of 23 February 2024, standard image reproduction fees start at $30 per image however fee waivers and discounts may be available - see our T&Cs for more details.

The image service is operated on a cost recovery basis to cover the time of our staff and the digital infrastructure necessary to make the image service available.

The digital images are delivered via Hightail file sharing software download link.

Orders are invoiced using Shopify. We accept credit cards and online payments. Orders typically take two weeks once payment has been received.
