Unboxed: The Collection Unpacked:
A Rare Glimpse Behind the Scenes

Nelson, New Zealand – Peek behind the curtain of the Nelson Provincial Museum Pupuri Taonga o Te Tai Ao with Unboxed: The Collection Unpacked, an exclusive exhibition opening on the 29 March 2025.

This exhibition invites visitors to explore the museum’s diverse collections and discover the fascinating stories behind a selection of intriguing objects. As the kaitiaki of over 300,000 objects, the Museum preserves the rich social and natural history of Te Tauihu.

Unboxed: The Collection Unpacked takes visitors behind the scenes, offering a rare chance to view objects that have never been on public display.

"This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to see firsthand the diversity of the collection and how the Museum cares for and preserves our region’s history," says Lucinda Jimson, Chief Executive of the Nelson Provincial Museum. "Each object tells a unique story, and Unboxed is our way of bringing those stories to life in an exciting and accessible way."

With each object carefully selected by the Museum's curators, Unboxed: The Collection Unpacked celebrates the Museum’s role in protecting and sharing history. Whether you're a history buff, an art enthusiast, or simply curious about what lies in the Museum's collection, this exhibition has something for everyone.
